We say this is rare because it is very difficult to find a huipil from this village now. No one in Pueblo Mixteco de la Costa is taking the time to weave something like this anymore. It is woven on the backstrap loom with a cotton warp. The weft designs are created using the supplementary weaving technique, also called discontinuous weaving or pick-up weaving. It is a decorative technique in which additional threads are woven into a textile to create an ornamental pattern in addition to the ground pattern. . The weave here introduces vibrant colors using synthetic fiber to create the amazing designs in the cloth. Colorful and extraordinary. Measures 39” wide x 36” long.
