Vintage Fine Amusgo Huipil, Collector’s Piece
$485.00
Ships in 5 -7 business daysIn fine, vintage condition showing no wear, this collector’s piece was purchased in mid-2007 from Señor Crispin, a dealer of fine textile antiquities at the Mercado Benito Juarez in Oaxaca Centro. It is from the Amusgo people, who work on the back strap loom in villages tucked into the remote mountain areas of northern Oaxaca and southern Guerrero. We do not know its provenance, but by looking at the multi-level intricate work of the bodice, we believe it is probably from Xochistlahuaca, Guerrero, located in the Sierra Madre del Sur, not too far from Acapulco. As typical of this vintage, the shoulder area is embroidered. The randa or joining stitchery, is perfectly executed. Adjustable embroidered neckline added. Measures 32″ wide x 28″ long.
