Hot Magenta Pink Amusgo Huipil

Hot pink magenta huipil from Oaxaca’s Amusgo people in the highlands above the Pacific Coast, handwoven in the village of San Pedro Amusgo on the back strap loom with the finest cotton threads. The floral bodice is achieved using the supplementary weft technique. The Spanish aristocracy in Mexico loved floral designs and introduced (or should I say induced) indigenous weavers to the textile bouquets to adorn their garments. Notice the randa, the elaborate needlework stitch that joins the wefts together. This one measures 28″ wide x 32″ long and is perfect over a skirt or pants.
